Student Expectations

Assignments

Target students are given a variety of assignments to complete in each week, including math/problem solving, logic, research, unit work, and long term projects.  All assignments are discussed thoroughly in Target classes and students are aware of their responsibilities when they leave, so they may begin any unfinished work that day.

Homework typically consists of unfinished classwork, and assignments that are designed to prepare students for the upcoming class.  Target teachers post reminders of assignments to CTLS each week following the class meeting, providing students ample time to complete their assignments. Because Target classes only meet once per week, it is very important that students complete their work accurately and on time.  Students are not given homework in their homeroom classes on Target days and are not expected to complete work done in the homeroom class while they are in Target.

Absences

Students are expected to complete all unfinished assignments by the next Target class, even if they are absent on their Target day.  Following an absence, students should check the day's CTLS post and then check in with their Target teacher upon returning to school to clarify assignments and make sure they are prepared for the next Target class.

Late Assignments

In order to experience optimum academic success and progress, students must complete all assignments.  Assignments are usually due by the student's next Target class, unless otherwise indicated by the teacher.

Late work impacts student progress (Self Directed Learner standard). If a student does not have their assignment/materials:

  • Parent will be notified

  • Late work must be turned in by the next Target class for credit

  • Late assignments will result in grades being lowered from an S to a P

  • After parent notification, if late assignments continue to be a problem, the grade may be lowered from a P to a D, resulting in "student does not meet standards"

  • Late work will be accepted for up to one week past the due date

Behavior

We have very high expectations for student behavior in Target. We follow the school TEAM procedures, and expect our students to model good behavior at all times, including transitions to/from Target.

Progress Reports

Student progress is reported twice per year in January and in May.  Progress reports are sent home with students on their Target day and parents will be notified via CTLS.
