Task 1

Now that you are familiar with the Legend of the Paper Crane, you will research several animals that could be substituted for a crane. You must use logical reasoning and evaluative thinking to determine why that particular animal would be a good substitute for a crane. Remember why cranes were chosen for the legend in the first place: they are mystical, admired, have long lifespans, are considered to be lucky charms, etc...You should find another animal that is comparable. For example, I think that a lion would be a good substitute for the crane in the Japanese legend because it's the king of the jungle and is admired. You must be able to defend your answer with a valid reason.

Use a notecard to record at least three animals that would be good substitutes for cranes in the legend. Remember to list your reason using evaluative thinking. We will share our answers at the end of the lesson.

Directions to accessing animal research:

1) Click on Cobb Digital Library to access MackinVIA

2) Click on the Databases tab (left hand side)

3) Type in animals in the "search resource" box

4) Click on Gale Kids Infobits

5) Click on the Animals icon

6) Begin your research :)
