Chapter 4: The Unwelcome Passenger
Professor Sherman sets out on his adventure in this chapter, anticipating no problems. Unfortunately, the professor had a few problems that he didn't anticipate. These problems resulted in a few uninvited guests that damage his Globe. His problems do not end there! His problems result in him having to abandon his Globe under dangerous circumstances, only to barely make it to safety! Read to find out how Professor Sherman's relaxing vacation turns in to an unexpected and dangerous adventure!
Task 1: Choose a Design for your Balloon
Large Globe Ballooon
Working with your team, evaluate the different balloon shapes and sizes.

Discuss with your group and select a design. Larger balloons require more time than smaller balloons.

Using the template, design the colors and pattern of your envelope and gores. Decide who will bring any additional supplies next week, such as colored tissue paper.

Read the assembly directions carefully with your team. Resolve any questions or issues.
Task 2: Draft a Gore Template

You will begin by making a template for your gore. Following your chosen balloon design, draft a template for your gore using the following materials:​

Ruler

​Scissors

Be sure to measure twice before you cut! You will only receive 1 length of butcher paper.

Label your template with the following: Top, Bottom, Team Name, Team member names.

Store your template in a paper grocery bag labeled with your team name.

Bring in a paper grocery bag and any colored tissue you will need for your design.

Read Chapter 5 and be prepared to craft a detailed Reader's Response during our next class.
